On Aug 1, shooting defendant Jadad Harris’s case was continued for the possibility of a new plea agreement.
Harris, 39, is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon for his alleged involvement in a non-fatal shooting.
According to Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) documents, officers responded to a shooting on Nov. 1, 2019, on the 700 block of Florida Ave, NW. They discovered two victims suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds outside of a pizza parlor.
The confrontation began when Harris’s wife allegedly bumped into the first victim and they started to argue.
Harris stepped in to defend his wife. Then a second victim tried to intervene.
According to court documents, video footage shows Harris and the first victim walking out of the pizza shop. Harris proceeded to remove a handgun from his waistband and allegedly shot the victim.
As the second victim left the shop, he spotted Harris and attempted to use a bar stool to fend him off. Harris allegedly shot the second victim multiple times and he fell to the ground.
Video footage appears to show Harris and his wife leaving the scene together.
Harris was offered a plea deal if he accepted charges of aggravated assault, assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of possession of a firearm. However, that was before he was indicted on 16 counts relating to the crime.
The prosecutor mentioned that there may be post-indictment plea offers.
The next hearing is on Aug 11.
