The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is seeking the public’s assistance in investigating an MPD officer involved shooting that took place on August 1 on the 1700th bock of Benning Road NE.
According to MPD documents, the officer who first arrived on the scene identified a potential suspect and attempted to speak with the individual. While the officer attempted to question the potential suspect, the suspect revealed a firearm and began shooting in the direction of an MPD officer multiple times.
The officer returned fire and the suspect fled to a nearby apartment building where the suspect was taken into custody. No injuries have been reported to come from the shooting.
The suspect’s firearm was recovered from the scene.
On August 1, 37-year-old Saeve Evans, was arrested and charged with assault on a police officer, carrying a pistol without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm, possession of unregistered ammunition, possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
The officer involved in the shooting has been place on administrative leave pending investigation.
