Non-Fatal Shooting

One-Time Shooting Defendant Freed From GPS Monitoring

DC Superior Court Judge Judith Pipe sanctioned the removal of a gun possession defendant’s GPS monitoring device on June 30, while he on release is awaiting trial.

Malik Stone, 28, is charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm during a crime of violence for his alleged involvement in a shooting that occurred on the 2100 block of R Street, SE on July 30, 2025.

Stone was originally charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm during crime of violence for reportedly firing shots during his alleged involvement in the crime. The prosecution’s indictment did not include these charges. Judge Pipe reasoned he may have acted in self-defense.

Stone’s attorney, Henry Druschel, noted that Stone has been fully compliant with release conditions and GPS monitoring, requesting that the device be removed.

Judge Pipe agreed that in the past when Mr. Stone was released, “Mr. Stone held,” to his release conditions.

After amending Stone’s release, Judge Pipe informed Stone that he must “remain in compliance” and “should not drive a car until further order from the court.”

Parties are slated to reconvene on Jan. 28.
