A defendant detained nearly three hours away from DC in the Northern Neck Regional Jail told DC Superior Court Judge Judith Pipe on June 30 that he had significant communication issues with his attorney.
Andrew Patrick, 41, is charged with armed carjacking and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence for his alleged involvement in an armed carjacking on Sept. 22, 2022 at a gas station on the 2700 block of Good Hope Road, SE.
Patrick raised concerns regarding communication with his attorney, Stephen LoGerfo, due to his distance from DC. Judge Pipe agreed that he needs to be in DC Jail for trial preparation.
“He should be here,” Judge Pipe reiterated about the location of his detention.
Judge Pipe said she will reach out to the Bureau of Prisons (BoP) to fix the misunderstanding. If there is still an issue in the next week or so, she asked LoGerfo to contact her.
The prosecution, meanwhile, extended a plea offer to Patrick. He would serve 14 years concurrently if he were to plead guilty to carjacking and armed robbery. Patrick rejected this offer. The prosecution made it clear that there will not be another plea deal put on the table.
The court is set to reconvene on Aug. 25.
