Defendant Considers Plea Agreement

A DC Superior Court judge granted a defendant’s request for time to consider a plea agreement.

Tywone Sommers was brought before the court regarding two different cases. In the more recent one, he is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

The defendant waived his right to a preliminary hearing and requested to take time to consider a plea agreement, which Judge Todd Edelman granted.

Sommers is also awaiting sentencing for an earlier case, in which he is charged with receiving stolen property over $1,000, unauthorized use of a vehicle, fleeing a law enforcement officer, driving recklessly, destroying property less than $1,000, leaving after colliding and driving without a permit. In February, he pleaded guilty to three of the charges.

As part of a plea agreement with the prosecution, the other charges were dropped.

Sommers’ next hearing is scheduled for July 22.
