Man charged with murder for allegedly beating two other men

Police have charged a man with murder for allegedly beating a man to death, and causing serious harm to another.

Manuel Pupo-Leyvas was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and simple assault. Police have not released the name of the victim who died from his injuries pending notification of their family.

According to police, at around 5:30 a.m. on Friday they found an unconscious male inside of an apartment building. The man was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries. The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the head and body. Police also found a second male near the apartment building who was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Pupo-Leyvas was presented in D.C. Superior Court Saturday and ordered held without bail. He is due to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 6.
