After police stand-off, Roosevelt Robinson charged with murder

After a standoff with police that lasted over a day and a half, police have charged 67-year-old Roosevelt Robinson with murder.

Robinson allegedly barricaded himself inside a home on the 3700 block of 18th Street, NE, after fatally shooting Loretta Carswell. Police say Carswell was killed around 10:15 a.m. Friday.

Robinson barricaded himself inside the home until police were able to negotiate and apprehend him at around 5 p.m. the following day. Robinson was charged with second-degree murder while armed.

“The highly trained members from our Emergency Response Team did an outstanding job in protecting not only the life of the suspect, but the lives of the persons in the surrounding neighborhood,” Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier said in a statement. “I would also like to thank our partners in the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their support and the communities that were affected by this situation for their patience, understanding, and cooperation during the duration of the event.”
