The man accused of the murder of 61-year-old Richard Dudley accepted a plea deal in court Tuesday.
Andrew Miller, 34, pleaded guilty to second-degree-murder while armed for Dudley’s fatal stabbing.
According to the prosecutor’s narrative, Dudley was killed two years ago after a drug deal gone awry. On March 19 around 1:30 p.m. in Congress Heights, Miller sold Dudley two bags of crack cocaine. After the purchase the two dispersed.
However, Miller, armed with a knife, returned to the site of the deal a few hours later. According to the prosecutor, Miller believed Dudley used counterfeit money in the exchange. So in retaliation Miller stabbed the decedent once in the abdomen.
Dudley died around 8 p.m. that night. The coroner ruled Dudley’s cause of death a single stab to the abdomen.
Under the plea agreement Miller will only face the murder charge. All other charges associated with the drugs and guns located when he was arrested will be dismissed.
Judge Judith Bartnoff accepted the plea deal and upon sentencing Miller will face anywhere between 14 to 17 years in prison.
Miller is expected in court for sentencing on April 21.
