Hairston Guilty of Killing Ex-Girlfriend

On May 8, a jury found Donald Hairston guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend was she slept in her bed.

Throughout the case, which involved around 40 witnesses, the prosecution proved Hairston’s motive of control and presented evidence that showed that Stephanie Goodloe was afraid of Hairston, 51. Before the homicide Goodloe,40, had taken out a restraining order and filed a police report against Hairston.

Goodloe’s now 13-year-old daughter also testified at the trial. The daughter, who was in the residence at the time of the shooting, located on the 700 block of Kentucky Avenue, SE, told the jury that she was 100 percent sure Hairston killed her mother. The daughter said she saw Hairston walk by her door, stop and turn in front of her after he pulled the trigger.

Hairston is expected to be sentenced on July 20 by Superior Court Judge Danya Dayson.
