Dion Martin pleads guilty to murder of Muhammad Washington

Dion Martin pleaded guilty Wednesday to the murder of Muhammad Washington.

Martin, who had been charged with second-degree murder will be sentenced in September. He has been held without bail since first being arrested with Washington’s death in October.

The prosecution has agreed not to bring any other charges in the case against Martin. After Judge Robert E. Morin Martin questioned Martin to ensure he understood he was giving up his right to trial by jury, Martin entered a guilty to the charge against him.

According to charging documents, witnesses saw Martin walking down the street where Washington was later killed asking for “MO” because “MO” had sent people to his home. According to witness accounts relayed in the arrest warrant, Martin was heard yelling that he was going to shoot Washington in the head when he found him. A witness then saw the two men get into a fight, when the man later identified as Martin shoot Washington in the chest with a handgun. Another person interviewed in the arrest affidavit said they received a phone call from Martin admitting to the shooting.

Martin is due back in court July 15 for a felony status conference and then again on September 9 for sentencing.
