The Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Major Crash Investigations Unit is investigating the death of a man who was struck by a vehicle while he was riding his bike on Dec. 19.
According to MPD documents, the preliminary investigation revealed that a male cyclist was traveling northbound in the northbound lanes of the 1200 block of New Jersey Avenue, NW. A four-door black sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on New Jersey Avenue, NW, and crossed into the northbound lanes to begin turning left onto Morgan Street, NW.
When the sedan crossed into the bike’s path, it struck the cyclist and fled the scene. The cyclist was transported to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
On Dec. 28, the cyclist succumbed to his injuries.
The victim was identified as 33-year-old Peter Black.
