Document: Police Arrest Suspect for Assault on Police Officer and Other Offenses

The Metropolitan Police Department arrested May 18 a suspect wanted in connection to multiple offenses, including assaulting a police officer, child cruelty and car jacking.

A forty-year-old man is charged with assault on a police officer while armed, unlawful discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, armed carjacking with a gun, burglary one, kidnapping, unauthorized use of a vehicle, leaving the scene after colliding, destruction of property, attempt to flee from a law enforcement officer, felon in possession, carrying a dangerous weapon — felony, fugitive from justice, possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device and first-degree child cruelty.

According to a press release, officers from the MPD, the Bowie Police Department, the Montgomery County Police Department and the Prince George’s County Police Department pursued a stolen vehicle that was believed to have been involved in multiple armed carjacking offenses in Maryland.

After the vehicle crashed into another vehicle, a shootout began between the suspect and officers. The suspect was hit and took flight to a nearby residence located on the 3900 block of Pennsylvania, SE. The residence was occupied at the time.

Police recovered two weapons from the scene.

The suspect was apprehended and taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
