Document: Police Investigate 2019 Homicide

Appropriate upgraded charges are pending against a defendant who was arrested for assault with intent to kill while armed in 2019 after the victim died from his injuries, according to a press release.

At around 2:52 p.m. on July 30, 2019 on the 3rd Street Tunnel near Massachusetts Avenue, NW, the suspect allegedly brandished a handgun and fired at the victim following a traffic related dispute, and then fled the scene.

The victim, 52 year-old Leon Williams, of Northeast, DC, was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

A 21 year-old adult male, of no fixed address, was arrested in connection with the incident on Aug. 5, 2019.

On Oct. 22, 2020, Williams succumbed to his injuries.

An autopsy determined that the cause of death was complications from gunshot wounds and the manner of death was ruled a homicide. This case remain under investigation.
