Tierra Posey was acquitted of all charges on March 20, 2024.

On Nov. 16, a DC Superior Court judge allowed a murder defendant to remain at a halfway house and placed her on the High Intensity Supervision Program (HISP.)

Tierra Posey was released to the halfway house in September. She has reportedly been compliant with her order to live there, as well as with her stay away order and GPS monitoring.

The 20 year-old defendant is charged with second-degree murder while armed. She is accused of fatally shooting 21 year-old Tia Carey

On Jan. 6, Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers responded to the 3700 block of Minnesota Avenue, NE for the sounds of gunshots. There, they found Carey suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The defendant was arrested that same day.

According to court documents, witnesses stated that Carey proceeded to open the subject’s rear passenger door and started to take clothes from the backseat while still maintaining the verbal altercation. This action then prompted the situation to turn into a physical altercation eventually leading to two witnesses seeing Posey shoot Carey twice with a handgun before being restrained by the witnesses until MPD officers arrived.

Judge Judith Pipe scheduled Posey’s next court hearing – a felony status conference –  for June 7.
