DC Superior Court Judge Carmen McLean commended a non-fatal shooting defendant for his compliance while on pre-trial release in a hearing on June 4.
McKinley McClain, 19, is charged with assault with intent to commit robbery while armed for his alleged involvement in a non-fatal shooting on the 1600 block of W Street, SE on Dec. 30, 2025.
According to court documents, McClain and two other suspects allegedly attempted to rob a victim, reportedly assaulting him, and fired one shot as the victim fled.
On March 11, Judge McLean placed McClain on GPS monitoring and included a 6 p. m.-to -7 a. m. curfew that would allow him to finish his senior year of high school.
At the hearing, the judge praised McClain for his compliance with the conditions of his release despite being late for his curfew twice.
McClain’s attorney, Darryl Daniels, asked to keep a plea deal open until the next hearing. The prosecution agreed but didn’t specify the terms.
Parties are scheduled to reconvene for a felony status conference on July 1.
