Judge Rejects Carjacking Defendant’s Request For Release

DC Superior Court Judge Judith Pipe rejected a carjacking defendant’s request for pretrial release on June 29.

Tysean Redfield, 20, is charged with armed carjacking for his alleged involvement in an incident that occurred on March 11. Redfield and another individual are accused of pointing a gun at the driver of a 2014 Toyota Camry on the unit block Atlantic Avenue SE, and ordered the victim out of the vehicle and fled the scene with the car.

Redfield’s attorney, Andrew Ain, requested that the court release his client given that he had no prior criminal history. The prosecutors asked for the continued detention of Redfield due to the significance of the dangerousness he exhibited during his alleged involvement in the carjacking. Judge Pipe agreed with the prosecutors.

Ain told the court that with trial happening on Sept. 8, he might not be available, therefore Redfield might request a new attorney.

Parties are slated to reconvene on July 21.
