Judge Reschedules Murder Hearing

A DC Superior Court judge rescheduled a defendant’s Nov. 12 hearing because the defense attorney had a scheduling conflict.

Xavier Culbreth, 20, is charged with first-degree murder while armed and carrying a dangerous weapon outside a home or business.

Culbreth is accused of kicking 40-year-old Jamal Ferrell down an escalator and then stabbing him seven times at the Potomac Avenue Metro Station on April 28, 2019. Ferrell was pronounced dead 45 minutes later at a local hospital.

Defense attorney Matthew Davies was needed in a different courtroom for a preliminary hearing, so Judge Michael Ryan rescheduled the status hearing to Dec. 1.
