DC Superior Court Judge Julie Becker set a murder defendant’s preliminary hearing for Aug. 20.
William Whitaker is charged with first-degree murder while armed in the death of Malick Cisse, 18, on the 1300 block of 7th Street, NW on Jan. 8.
A friend who was with Cisse at 11 p.m. said ta woman texted him asking to meet, according to court documents. The friend told police that it was unusual, but Cisse insisted on seeing her.
The friend lost contact with Cisse and saw him lying outside after he heard the sound of gunshots.
Surveillance footage shows the driver of a vehicle shooting Cisse and fleeing the scene.
The woman who was thought to have texted Cisse said she was hacked. At the time of the murder, her Instagram record shows multiple deactivations, re-activations, log ins, log outs, profile changes and the starting of a new account.
