A DC Superior Court judge set another status hearing date in a homicide case with two defendants.

Stephon Evans, 20, and his codefendant Kewon Hunter, 21, are charged with first-degree murder while armed for their alleged role in the shooting of 21-year-old Dion DeMarco Boyd on July 30, 2018, on the 1400 block of Maryland Avenue, NE. Evans and Hunter are also charged with conspiracy while armed, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence and carrying a pistol without a license.

During the May 26 hearing, Judge Milton Lee explained that it was difficult for him to set a trial date at this time. He said that any trial dates scheduled today would likely be moved in the near future to make way for older cases.

Defense attorney Jesse Winograd said that scheduling a status hearing for August would allow them to then pick a trial date in 2022 when more court resources are available.

A status hearing is scheduled for Aug. 30.
