A DC Superior Court judge set a sentencing date for a convicted manslaughter defendant who was brought to court on a bench warrant last month.

In February 2019, Terica Younger pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of 43-year-old Talata Williams, who was killed in a vehicle collision on the 2400 block of Good Hope Road, SE, during the early hours of  Sept. 17, 2017. Younger’s blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit at the time of the crash, D.C. Witness previously reported. She also reportedly tested positive for fentanyl, a narcotic.

Younger, 44, was allowed to remain released pending sentencing. But when she failed to appear in court for a show cause hearing in June 2019,  Judge Milton Lee issued a bench warrant for her arrest, D.C. Witness previously reported. Last October, the Metropolitan Police Department issued a press release seeking the public’s assistance in locating her.

The defendant was eventually found and brought to court for a bench warrant return hearing in August. She is currently being held in detention.

During the Sept. 8 hearing, Judge Lee denied Younger’s request for new defense counsel. He said he wanted to give defense attorney Madalyn Harvey time to talk with her client, and scheduled the sentencing hearing to take place on Dec. 6.
