Lamar Young denied bail for alleged death of Bobby Ellis

Lamar Young, a man charged with fatally stabbing Bobby Ellis in an argument over subs during a basketball game was denied bail in his first appearance for the charge on Tuesday.

Young was arrested on Monday and charged with second-degree murder while armed for Ellis’ death in August.

According to the warrant for Young’s arrest, a witness told police Ellis was angry about being substituted out of a basketball game, played on a court at Ronald H. Brown Middle School in Northeast. According to the warrant, a witness heard Young tell Ellis “I got guns,” to which Ellis replied “I got guns too.” Young then pulled a knife out of his shorts while Ellis stood still and Young held him by the neck and stabbed him once in the left side of his stomach. Ellis, according to the warrant, backed up from Young and ran to the parking lot. He collapsed in the parking lot and got up once more before he fell by a parked vehicle and collapsed, which is where he was later found by police.

Ellis was pronounced dead a a hospital about an hour after police responded to the call for an unconscious male in the parking lot. According to an autopsy, Ellis died from the stab wound.

Two witnesses identified Young as the stabber, according to the warrant.

Young’s next court date is December 18.
