DC Superior Court Judge Todd Edelman told homicide defendants’ attorneys to file written motions following their request to release two defendants from home confinement in court on Jan 31, 2025.
Charles Jeter, 39, and Kevin Sewell, 33, are charged with first-degree murder while armed, conspiracy, burglary while armed, and possession of a firearm during crime of violence for their alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of 46-year-old Kevin Robinson on Nov. 30, 2014, on the 600 block of Edgewood Street, NE.
According to court documents, Robinson was Sewell’s father.
At the hearing, Thomas Alvin Jr. and Carrie Weletz, Jeter’s attorneys, requested that his release conditions be modified from home confinement to solely GPS monitoring in order to tend to medical issues.
According to Jeter’s attorneys, Jeter has reportedly contacted the Pretrial Services Agency (PSA) for permission to leave his home to seek treatment but they have been unresponsive.
Judge Edelman ordered Jeter’s attorneys to file a motion in writing to allow the prosecution to respond.
Sewell and Jeter also waived their right to independently test DNA evidence.
According to Sewell’s attorneys, Edward Gain and Joseph Fay, had the prosecution not destroyed the shotgun recovered in connection to the incident, they would have gone through with testing.
Parties are slated to reconvene May 9.
