Person of interest in murder of 16-year-old-girl surrenders at police station

A man sought by the Metropolitan Police Department in connection with the death of 16-year-old Breyona McMillian outside the Potomac Gardens housing complex has turned himself into police.

At a press conference held Tuesday morning, Interim Chief of Police Peter Newsham told reporters police were searching for Saeve Evans who they believe could provide information regarding McMillian’s murder. Police obtained a warrant for Evans’ arrest, charging him with unlawful possession of a firearm. According to Newsham, Evans has a prior felony conviction,  making it unlawful for him to possess a firearm.

Newsham could not confirm if it was a bullet discharged from Evans’ weapon that killed McMillian, though he did say Evans was seen on the video discharging the weapon multiple times in the direction of a group of people standing outside the housing complex.

“If he is listening and he has any conscience or any human decency, we ask that he turn himself in and take responsibility for his actions,” Newsham said at the press conference.

According to police, Evans surrendered at a police station Tuesday night and was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm. He is due to be arraigned in D.C. Superior Court Wednesday afternoon.
