Defendant Arraigned on 15 Counts in Double Shooting Case

Eric Lemus, 24, pleaded not guilty to a 15 count indictment in a trial readiness hearing before DC Superior Court Judge Sean Staples on Aug 11.  Lemus is charged with assault with intent to kill while armed against a minor, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, aggravated assault knowingly while armed, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence in addition to other counts stemming from an incident that occurred on March 22 on the 1000 block of Park Road, NW. Murder Suspect’s Detention Continues Under New DC Law

On July 21, DC Superior Court Judge Maribeth Raffinan granted a prosecutor’s request for continued detention of a homicide defendant under a new law as he awaits trial.  Derricko Johnson, 19, is charged with first-degree murder while armed, three counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed for his alleged connection to the shooting of 16-year-old Justin Johnson at the 2200 block of Savannah Terrace, SE on May 26, 2022.  The prosecution argued that the case against Johnson is stronger than it was a year ago at his preliminary hearing based on recent evidence. Victim Killed in Crossfire After Robbery

On July 19, during a preliminary hearing, DC Superior Court Judge Maribeth Raffinan found probable cause that a defendant was the perpetrator in a homicide.  Demarcus Barnett, 20, is charged with second-degree murder for his alleged involvement in the shooting death of 62-year-old Lasanta McGill on June 8, 2023, on the 1900 block of 7th Street NW.  In court, prosecutors presented surveillance footage recovered from a liquor store allegedly showing Barnett being robbed at gunpoint by two unknown suspects. Defendant Pleads Guilty, Sentenced to 22-and-a-half Years for Homicide

On June 20, DC Superior Court Judge Maribeth Raffinan sentenced Glen Dolford for his involvement in a 2020 fatal shooting.  Dolford, 29, was originally charged with first-degree murder while armed, assault with intent to kill while armed, and aggravated assault-grave risk while armed, among other charges, for his involvement in the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Raheem Murray on the 4000 block of 3rd Street, SE, on Feb. Co-Defendants Plead Guilty in 2022 Assault Case 

On June 15, DC Superior Court Judge Maribeth Raffinan heard two co-defendants in a 2022 case plead guilty to aggravated assault and possession of a firearm.  Jinmar Fuentes, 22, and Martel Howard, 23, allegedly assaulted two brothers on July 31, 2022 on the 2000 block of 14th Street, NW in a robbery attempt.  According to court documents, Fuentes approached one of the brothers with a loaded firearm.
