Stabbing Defendant No-Show in Court, Faces Second Bench Warrant

DC Superior Court Judge Robert Salerno issued a bench warrant for a stabbing defendant after she missed her court hearing on June 25.

Juanishia Lee, 47, is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon for her alleged involvement in a stabbing that left one individual with injuries to the head, ear, and neck. The incident occurred on March 2 at the 2900 block of O Street, SE.

According to court records, Lee was released on March 6 under conditions that included following a stay-away order and receiving electronic monitoring.

Lee failed to appear for the scheduled installation of a GPS monitor and supplemental orientation on March 9, resulting in her first bench warrant.

The defendant was present at a bench warrant return hearing, on March 16.

On April 28, at the request of Lee’s attorney, Daniel Dorsey, Judge Salerno ordered an assessment order for bed-to-bed substance abuse treatment for Lee. A release order was filed for her transfer from the DC Jail to a drug treatment program.

The defendant was still receiving treatment at her hearing on June 4.

On June 25, Lee was absent for her pretrial show cause hearing to consider whether she could stay on release. A representative from the Pretrial Services Agency (PSA) made the representation that the defendant is deemed a loss of contact. Dorsey offered no representations on her behalf.

Judge Salerno issued a second bench warrant in the case as a result.

The parties will reconvene when US Marshals execute the warrant.
