Teenager driver of stolen vehicle that led to fatal crash charged with murder

A teenager has been charged with murder after police say he caused a fatal accident driving a stolen car while fleeing police.

Police say that on Dec. 23 they observed 17-year-old David Mclane driving a Lexus they believe was stolen in an armed robbery two days prior. While police tried to stop the car, the driver tried to flee. While speeding, the car led to three other accidents– the car first struck a Nissan Altima which spun and struck a tree, and then a Honda Fit. The Honda then struck a Ford Expedition. Police say the driver of the Nissan was killed in the accident, the driver of the Honda was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and the driver of the Ford did not require any medical attention.

The driver of the Honda was identified as 31-year-old Kenneth Edward Morris Jr.

When the Lexus stopped, two males inside the car successfully fled, but the driver was arrested. The driver, Mclane, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Police say he was charged as an adult.

Mclane was presented in D.C. Superior Court on Saturday and is being held without bail. He is next due to appear in court on January 5.
