Tyree Morgan offered plea deal

A man accused of fatally stabbing another during a fight over a woman was offered a plea deal on Friday, where he would face up to six-and-a-half year in prison.

Tyree Morgan was charged with second-degree murder for stabbing Antoine Jackson inside Morgan’s apartment on July 22.

Jackson was admitted to the hospital on July 22, and died on July 30. According to an autopsy included in charging documents, Jackson died from multiple sharp force injuries in his torso.

According to police, Morgan turned himself into police five hours after the stabbing. He was then charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, but the charges were upgraded a week later when Jackson died from his injuries.

In D.C. Superior Court on Friday, prosecutors made public a plea deal that would recommend a sentence of four years to six-and-a-half years if Morgan pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.

According to the police documents, Morgan and Jackson were fighting when Morgan stabbed Jackson multiple times with a knife. According to a witness on the phone during the fight Jackson asked Morgan “Why you texting my girl,” referring to the woman who was still on the line. Jackson told the woman that Morgan stabbed him and he was dying. The victim also told police Morgan stabbed him during the argument.

Morgan, who has been out on bail and living in a halfway house, was also granted permission to work as part of his release with a program administered by the halfway house on Friday.
