The DC Department of Corrections announced May 11 that 13 more inmates tested positive for the coronavirus.
In total, there are 44 inmates who have tested positive for the a virus and are in isolation.
All of the inmates were housed in the central detention facility (CDF) at the DC Jail. The new cases range in age from 24 years old to 64 years old.
According to Keena Blackmon, the DC Department of Corrections (DC DOC) director of strategic communications and public relations officer, 114 inmates from the CDF and 62 inmates from the correctional treatment facility (CTF) have tested positive for the virus as of May 11.
Of the inmates, 129 detainees have recovered from their illnesses and returned to the jail’s general population.
Five inmates, who previously tested positive for the virus, are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
On May 7, the jail announced that four inmates who were in isolation because they tested positive for the coronavirus were released at the end of their sentences. The inmates were provided with personal protective equipment and information on how to self isolate, the email said.
The District’s site on the coronavirus states that 74 DC DOC personnel members have tested positive for the virus as of May 10. Of those members, 36 are out and 37 employees have been allowed to return to work.
