On April 29, judges at the DC Superior Courthouse released five inmates.

There were four hearings that were not in relation to emergency releases because of COVID-19. Three status hearings where no action was taken. One was a mental observation hearing that did not occur and was not rescheduled.

There were bench warrants issued for four defendants and one defendant, Joseph Armstrong, was taken into custody after consistently violating the terms of his conditions of release.

One bond review hearing was rescheduled.

One defendant had his release conditions modified while another defendant’s release conditions were not changed.

A judge ordered that Darnell Savoy be tested for COVID-19 by May 1.

Judges also denied the release of two inmates.

In total there were 20 defendants that had cases. A majority of the cases were for bond review hearings. You can read about each case on dcwitness.org.

One defendant, Kimberly Thompson was scheduled for a status hearing but no action was taken in regards to his case. Thompson was denied release on April 22. He is scheduled for a trial readiness hearing on Aug. 12.

Thompson is charged with first-degree murder for shooting Charles Mayo, 53, on the 1900 block of Bennett Place, NE.
