A defendant in violation of a civil protection order was granted release at a May 1 hearing.

Kenneth Currie is charged with violation of civil protection order and contempt of his condition of release violation.

DC Superior Court Judge Michael Ryan granted Currie’s motion for release from Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital, DC’s psychiatric institution. Currie was declared mentally incompetent in March.

As part of the judge’s order, St. Elizabeth’s has until May 4 to determine appropriate living arrangements for the Currie that will allow him to succeed throughout the duration of this case.

Currie has a hearing slated for July 6.
