The lead detective testified that clothing worn by the defendants ties them to a homicide during trial on Feb. 3 before DC Superior Court Judge Jason Park.
Ronald Wallace, 48, and DeAngelo Glover, 30, are charged with first-degree murder while armed, assault with intent to kill while armed, two counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and unlawful possession of a firearm, for their alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of 34-year-old Tyrone Wright on Jan. 19, 2021 on the 3700 block of Hayes Street, NE.
Previously, Wallace’s cousin testified that Ronald Wallace and Wright had a “beef” or ongoing dispute.
The prosecutor claimed that this case was an act of retaliation. Wallace allegedly believed that Wright was responsible for the death of his brother, Marcus Wallace, in November 2020.
The lead detective testified that by combing through security footage, it’s possible to see the defendants’ resemblance to the suspects by clothing they wore at different times during the day of the incident. One of the suspects, seen on the security footage was identified by the detective because the person was the only one seen running away after the shots were fired.
During opening statements on Jan. 22, the prosecution linked one suspect’s apparel to Wallace’s work uniform consistent with a uniform worn by a custodian. Wallace was further linked to the crime by a witness who came forward to Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers allegedly saying Wallace confessed his involvement to him. The second suspect was described as wearing grey sneakers, blue jeans, and a black sweatshirt.
Glover’s lawyer, Christen Phillips, acknowledged that the surveillance footage of the second suspect was Glover but said he only left the apartment building once shots were fired to check on his friends and family who were outside. Phillips also stated Glover shot at one perpetrator as the suspect was running away, not the victim.
Michael Bruckheim, Wallace’s attorney, questioned an investigating detective about whether he reviewed all of the evidence before obtaining an arrest warrant. The detective claimed MPD he followed proper procedure.
The detective acknowledged he heard that another suspect allegedly confessed to the homicide but it wasn’t clear whether he investigated that further.
Parties are slated to reconvene on Feb. 4.
