John Allen denied bail in murder case

Police on Monday arrested 26-year-old John David Allen for the alleged murder of Cortez Clark inside of Allen’s apartment in October.

Allen, charged with second-degree murder while armed was held without bail when presented in court Tuesday, according to court documents.

A witness alleges Clark was assaulted inside of Allen’s apartment, before Allen and others led Clark to a vacant apartment and continued to beat him in the process. The witness said Allen repeatedly beat Clark while he was brought down the stairs and into the other apartment, and a female spit on Allen. In addition to the female and Allen, there were allegedly two other males who helped to carry Clark’s body. After he was dead, Clark was stripped of his clothes, keys and wallet before Allen began cleaning the hallway and apartment, the witness aid.

An autopsy report included in charging documents said Clark was stabbed multiple times, including stabs to his torso and buttocks. Clark also suffered injuries to his head and face, and the cause of death was determined to be sharp force injuries and blunt force trauma.

In an interview with police, Allen said he was a lookout when the aforementioned female and another male lured Clark to Allen’s apartment with the intention to rob him. Allen told police the other male and females beat Clark to death.

Police discovered Clark’s body inside the vacant apartment at 331 Parkland Place, SE on October 13. According to charging documents, Clark was killed on the night of October 10.

Allen’s next court date was set for December 11.
