A DC Superior Court judge released a defendant under the high intensity supervision program (HISP).

Micheal Blackwell is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm with a prior conviction.

Judge Todd Edelman released Blackwell into HISP after his attorney, Lola Ziadie, told the judge that there were job opportunities and community ties awaiting Blackwell once he was released.

Pre-trial services also informed the judge that Blackwell qualified for GPS monitoring.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 19.
