A judge on Friday released Milkiyas Bayisa from electronic monitoring, as he awaits a trial for the alleged murder of Kassahun Abebe Edo, in 2015.

Bayisa, who has been under high intensity supervision which includes wearing an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet, has had no infractions and shown up to all court dates. A judge has allowed him to be released, as long as he checks in twice weekly and completes random drug testing.

Bayisa is charged with second-degree murder for the killing of Edo, a 35-year-old man. According to police, Edo fell and struck his head on a sidewalk or curb at around 3 a.m.  Edo was found in the 700 block of Fairmont Street, NW, by police officers responding to a report of a fight in that area. Edo was taken to the hospital but died from the assault. Police say he was a resident of Irving, Texas.

Bayisa’s next court date is scheduled for July 21.
