Police searching for murder suspect

Police are searching for a 20-year-old man wanted for the alleged murder of Tyree Banks earlier this month.

Police believe William Lee Lewis, IV, described as a 5-foot-5 black man with black hair and brown eyes, is responsible for Banks’ murder. Banks was found on November 3, with gunshot wounds in the 5000 block of Benning Road, SE. Banks was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police plan to charge Lewis with first-degree murder while armed.

 

Unidentified male found dead Tuesday

Police are investigating the death of an unidentified man, found with gunshot wounds on Tuesday.

According to police, an adult man was found with gunshot wounds in the 1600 block of New York Avenue, NE, at around 10:30 a.m. The male, who has yet to be identified by police, was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

 

Police investigating shooting that left one dead, another injured

A 29-year-old was killed in a shooting Thursday that left another man injured.

According to police, two males were found with gunshot wounds at around 11:30 a.m. on the 5300 block of Clay Terrace, NE. Responding medical personnel found Antwan Baker, without any signs of life, and transported a surviving male to the hospital.

Police are still investigating.

 

Police investigating death of Ray Harrison

A 21-year-old named Ray Andre Harrison was killed in a shooting Friday, according to police.

Police say Harrison, of Northeast, was found with a gunshot wound at around 2:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of Adams Street, NE.

Harrison was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

 

Police investigating shooting death of unidentified man Sunday

Police are investigating the shooting death of an unidentified male that took place Sunday.

Police found the man’s body, whose name has not yet been released, on the 2900 block of 2nd street, SE Sunday afternoon around 4:15 p.m. According to a police press release, officers were responding to a call for an unconscious male when they found his body with gunshot wounds.

 

Arrest made for murder of Antonio Lee Bryant

Police on Thursday arrested Sean Paul Hurd for the murder of Antonio Lee Bryant in June.

Hurd, 19, was charged with first-degree murder while armed for allegedly killing Bryant on the night of June 17.

Bryant, 28, was found with gunshot wounds in the 3300 block of D Street, SE.

Warrant says Melvin Williams killed by shot from an assault rifle

Police last week made an additional arrest in the murder of Melvin Williams who, according to charging documents for both defendants, was killed by a single shot from an assault rifle.

According to the autopsy, Williams was shot from a distance and killed by a single gunshot wound to the right side of his head. According to police, Williams was likely killed by “a firearm utilizing large caliber ammunition.”

Police at the scene recovered multiple casing from at least two different guns gathered across a courtyard and between 100-150 yards away from where Williams was found.

Derrick Carter, 26, was charged in August for second-degree murder while armed, and has been held without bail. According to the warrant for his arrest, Carter was identified by multiple witnesses as possessing a long gun walking in the direction of where Williams was killed in the Woodland Terrace neighborhood in Southeast.

Last week police made an additional arrest, charging Tyrale Diontaye Johnson (also known as Darrell M. Johnson) with Williams’ murder. The warrant says Carter was seen with the handgun that was used to shoot at Williams and also physically braced Carter while he shot at Williams.

Both men are being held without bail as their case continues.

Police release video of suspect wanted in Percy Williams’ murder

Police investigating the death of Percy Williams have released a video of a suspect wanted in connection with the homicide.

According to police, Williams, 20, was found with gunshot wounds at around in the 1900 block of Capitol Ave, NE, on October 19.

Police released the video below to ask the public’s help in identifying a suspect.

Police investigating shooting death of Kenneth Cosby

Kenneth Eugene Cosby, 36, was fatally shot in the early morning of October 30, according to police.

Police in the area of 1400 block of V Street, SE, heard gunshots and found Cosby unconscious and unresponsive at around 1 a.m. Cosby was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

 

Police release video showing suspect, vehicle wanted in connection with Marcquetta Cunningham homicide

Police have released a video showing a suspect and a vehicle of interest wanted in connection with a homicide last month.  

Police are investigating a shooting that left 25-year-old Marcquetta Cunningham dead and a male wounded in the evening of October 28.

A person of interest is seen running in the video and getting into a four-door car which is also wanted in connection with the homicide. Police say the incident happened in the 4200 block of Edson Place, NE.

Police charge second man for July homicide

Police have charged a second man with murder for the July death of 31-year-old Melvin Williams.

On Friday, 21-year-old Tyrale Diontaye Johnson was charged with second-degree murder while armed. Police in August also charged Derrick Carter for Williams’ homicide. 

Williams was found dying from gunshot wounds on July 28 in the 2300 block of Ainger Place, SE.

According to court records, Carter has been held without bail since he was first arrested, and his case is still pending a grand jury investigation.

Johnson’s next court date is scheduled for November 10. He is also being held without bail.

Joseph Kenneth Belle fatally shot last Friday

Police say 36-year-old Joseph Kenneth Belle was fatally shot last Friday.

Belle, of Southeast, was found unconscious and unresponsive by police responding to a report of a shooting at around 6:10 p.m. last Friday. Belle died from his injuries where he was found in the 1300 block of Morris Road, SE.

 

 

Police investigating shooting death of Van Joyner

Police are investigating the death of 36-year-old Van Joyner, who was killed in a shooting on Halloween.

According to police, Joyner was found with gunshot wounds at around 2:45 a.m. on Halloween in the 1000 block of Savannah Street, SE.

Joyner was taken to the hospital and died from his injuries the following day, on November 1.

Joyner’s was not the only homicide in the very early hours of Halloween. Police are also investigating the death of Victor Drummings who was found dead on the other side of town at around 3:15 a.m. the same morning.

 

 

 

Lamar Young denied bail for alleged death of Bobby Ellis

Lamar Young, a man charged with fatally stabbing Bobby Ellis in an argument over subs during a basketball game was denied bail in his first appearance for the charge on Tuesday.

Young was arrested on Monday and charged with second-degree murder while armed for Ellis’ death in August.

According to the warrant for Young’s arrest, a witness told police Ellis was angry about being substituted out of a basketball game, played on a court at Ronald H. Brown Middle School in Northeast. According to the warrant, a witness heard Young tell Ellis “I got guns,” to which Ellis replied “I got guns too.” Young then pulled a knife out of his shorts while Ellis stood still and Young held him by the neck and stabbed him once in the left side of his stomach. Ellis, according to the warrant, backed up from Young and ran to the parking lot. He collapsed in the parking lot and got up once more before he fell by a parked vehicle and collapsed, which is where he was later found by police.

Ellis was pronounced dead a a hospital about an hour after police responded to the call for an unconscious male in the parking lot. According to an autopsy, Ellis died from the stab wound.

Two witnesses identified Young as the stabber, according to the warrant.

Young’s next court date is December 18.
