The Metropolitan Police Department arrested a suspect May 19 who is connected to an arson death on May 13.
According to a press release, officers charged 25-year-old D’Aundrey Scott with first-degree murder for allegedly starting a fire on the 900 block of H Street, NE that killed 62-year-old Darryl Finney.
Scott is also charged for additional fires that occurred on the same day.
He is being charged with assault with the intent to kill by arson for allegedly igniting a cloth and throwing it on a victim on the 1300 block of H Street, NE. Scott is also charged with destruction of property for allegedly setting an automobile on fire on the 1300 block of Florida Avenue, NE.
Police also charged him with arson for allegedly pouring a flammable liquid and igniting it outside of a residence on the 1400 block of Monroe Street, NE and allegedly setting a fire to a structure on the 1400 block of Morse Street, NE.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department arrested March 19 a suspect for a violent dispute on the 900 block of Decatur Street, NW.
According to a press release, the 29-year-old suspect is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (knife) for allegedly stabbing a victim during a dispute on April 20. The suspect fled the scene.
The victim received treatment at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The Metropolitan Police Department arrested May 18 a suspect wanted in connection to multiple offenses, including assaulting a police officer, child cruelty and car jacking.
A forty-year-old man is charged with assault on a police officer while armed, unlawful discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, armed carjacking with a gun, burglary one, kidnapping, unauthorized use of a vehicle, leaving the scene after colliding, destruction of property, attempt to flee from a law enforcement officer, felon in possession, carrying a dangerous weapon — felony, fugitive from justice, possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device and first-degree child cruelty.
According to a press release, officers from the MPD, the Bowie Police Department, the Montgomery County Police Department and the Prince George’s County Police Department pursued a stolen vehicle that was believed to have been involved in multiple armed carjacking offenses in Maryland.
After the vehicle crashed into another vehicle, a shootout began between the suspect and officers. The suspect was hit and took flight to a nearby residence located on the 3900 block of Pennsylvania, SE. The residence was occupied at the time.
Police recovered two weapons from the scene.
The suspect was apprehended and taken to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Fewer inmates are testing positive for the COVID-19 virus at the DC Jail.
According to press releases sent on May 19, 18 and 17, there have only been four new positive coronavirus cases at the jail. The inmates are all male and were housed in the jail’s central detention facility and the correctional treatment facility.
The number of new cases is being compared to the four positive tests reported by the DC Department of Corrections on May 15, and the 13 new cases reported on May 11.
There were no new positive COVID-19 cases reported on May 16, 14, 13 and 12.
The number of inmates in isolation hovered around 28 on May 17 and May 18, but, as of May 19, the number decreased to 15 inmates.
The department also stated that 165 inmates have recovered from coronavirus-related illnesses and returned to the jail’s general population.
A judge vacated Anthony Newman’s deferred sentencing review. Instead, his case will proceed with another review in July. Newman pleaded guilty to simple assault in a domestic violence case.
Two non-jury trials and one hearing were not called or rescheduled.
Between April 1 and May 15, 27 domestic violence related cases were scheduled for hearings.
A hearing for an assault, which was scheduled to occur on May 18, did not happen.

Scott was supposed to have a status hearing in front of Judge John McCabe, however, it was never called and no update was given via the online database. D.C. Witness could not confirm why the case was not called.
Scott is currently released with special conditions imposed by pretrial services, including a stay away order. D.C. Witness could not verify who or what Scott is prevented from going near in the order.
A scheduled non-jury trial was not called or held on May 18.
Charmaine Hammond is charged with simple assault and attempted possession of a prohibited weapon, a bottle.
Hammond was supposed to have a non-jury trial in front of Judge John McCabe, however, it was never called and no update was given via the online database.

Matsuda Carter is charged with voyeurism-privacy and unlawful disclosure.

Between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on May 18 the Metropolitan Police Department sent out one crime alert.
The alert was sent out at 6:28 p.m. for a shooting investigation. The shooting occurred at the intersection of 32nd Street, SE and Ely Place, SE. Police are looking for a black male with dark skin complexion, wearing a gray hoodie, blue jeans and black new balance sneakers.
The sentencing date for a defendant in a domestic violence case was vacated.
Anthony Newman pleaded guilty to simple assault and destruction of property less than $1,000 on Sept. 23, 2019.
Newman entered the plea under a deferred sentencing agreement, which means that is he violates any term of the agreement he would be sentenced for the crime. However, if he abides by all of the terms of the agreement his sentence would be dismissed.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department are looking for suspects connected to 17 crimes throughout Washington, DC from April 22-May 16.
According to press releases sent by the MPD, officers are looking to locate and identify suspects in connection to the following crimes:
Homicide
A suspect is being sought for an arson-related homicide on the 900 block of H Street, NW on May 13. According to a press release, 62-year-old Darryl Finney suffered from injuries related to the fire and died two days later on May 15.
Arson
The suspect is also being wanted for arson-related offense thatoccurred during the early morning hours of May 13. According to a press release, at 12:22 a.m., a suspect allegedly lit a cloth on fire and threw it at a victim on the 1300 block of H Street, NE.
At 1:05 a.m., police also responded to a car fire on the 1300 block of Florida Avenue, NE.
At 1:25 a.m., the suspect is also wanted for pouring flammable liquid in a residence and lit it on fire at the 1400 block of Morse Street, NE. The suspect left the scene.
There were no injuries reported in the other three arson offenses.
Burglary Two
Police are searching for suspects who stole property from a business located at the 3900 block of Chesapeake Street, NW on May 4.
Police are also trying to locate identify and locate a suspect who took property from a business located on the 1000 block of H Street, NW.
Assault
Police notified the public that they were looking for a suspect in assault with a dangerous weapon (gun) offense and an attempted robbery of an establishment offense that occurred on May 12 at the 600 block of Alabama Avenue, SE. According to a press release, the suspect approached a victim and demanded money. The victim did not comply and the suspect allegedly struck the victim with the handgun and left the scene.
On April 22, officers responded to the 2700 block of Wade Road, SE for gunshot sounds. Police found evidence that the suspect allegedly shot at the victim. There were no injuries.
On May 13, a suspect refused to pay for goods at a store on the 2800 block of Bladensburg Road, NE. When attempting to leave, a store worker confronted the suspect. The suspect allegedly pulled a knife, threatened the store worker, and then left.
The police are also requesting the public’s help in locating and identifying a suspect connected to an assault with a dangerous weapon offense on May 16 on the 400 block of L Street, NW. A press release states that during a verbal argument, the suspect stabbed the victim. The victim received treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
Armed Carjacking
In an attempt to locate suspects, the MPD released flyers in connection to an armed carjacking on May 9. According to a press release, the suspects used a gun to demand a victim hand over their car on the 1000 block of 3rd Street, SE.
The suspects are also connected to an attempted carjacking on the 400 block of M Street, SW. According to a press release, the victim drove away in the vehicle when the suspects pulled a gun to acquire it.
Police also updated a flyer in their search for suspects in an unarmed carjacking on the 5700 block of Georgia Avenue, NW. Police were able to arrest a17-year-old juvenile in the case, but are looking for additional suspects.
Robbery
Police are searching for suspects who are connected to a robbery offense on the 2300 block of Georgia Avenue, NW on May 16. Apparently, the suspects snatched a victim’s property and fled the scene on a scooter.
Police are also looking for a suspect connected to a robbery on the 1900 block of Vermont Avenue, NW on May 16. The suspect approached a victim, snatched their property and fled the scene, according to a press release.
Suspects are also be sought for a robbery by gunpoint on the 4300 block of Military Road, NW on May 16.
Police also released an updated flyer for a suspect wanted in connection to an attempted robbery on April 27 on the 700 block of Chesapeake Street, SE.
Judges presided over 36 defendants cases at the DC Superior Courthouse between May 11 and May 15. Of those cases, only nine percent of the defendants were released.
There were three Youth Rehabilitation Act sentences that were not held or rescheduled and no judge was assigned to preside over the cases.
Out of 31 cases that were heard, only 30 percent of the cases were not bond review hearings where defendants filed emergency motions for release due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of the defendants who had hearings were already released.

Judge Michael Ryan heard 25 defendants’ cases between May 11 and 15, releasing four defendants and denying release for ten defendants.
Judge Ryan placed two released defendants under the High Intensity Supervision Program (HISP) and the other two defendants were released with conditions imposed by pre-trial services.
He also moved Kenneth Bloomfield, who is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, to a different area of the DC jail and ordered that a defendant speak with his lawyer, weekly.
Legal counsel for William Johnson, who is charged with distribution of a controlled substance — heroin, possession of a controlled substance and distribution of a controlled substance while released, withdrew his request for release after Johnson refused to attend two hearings.
Judge Neal Kravitz heard one case during the week for murder defendant Alisa Randall, which was a mental observation hearing. The hearing was scheduled to continue on May 21. Randall, 32, is charged with stabbing 59-year-old Ronald Jones on the 1300 block of Euclid Street, NW on July 15, 2019.
Judge Sean Staples heard five hearings all of which were probation show cause hearings. One defendant did not show up to his hearing, so Judge Staples issued a bench warrant for Davon Boyd.
Franklin Fludd, who is serving one year on probation after being found guilty of simple assault, had his case rescheduled because he was told there was no court.
Judge Steven Berk only heard one hearing, which was a sentencing. He sentenced Robert Frazier, who pleaded guilty to assault of a police officer and unlawful possession of a firearm with a prior conviction, to six-months in prison followed by a year of probation.
Judge John Campbell only heard one hearing where he sentenced Dominick Paris to serve a year and a half in prison for attempting to commit robbery in 2019. Paris was initially charged with robbery.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department arrested a male suspect May 17, charging him with burglary and destruction of property.
According to a press release, the suspect gained entry by force into a business on the 1300 block of Good Hope Road, SE. Once inside the establishment, the suspect took property.
The suspect is scheduled to be seen at DC Superior Court on May 18.
Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department arrested May 15 a suspect who is wanted in connection to multiple burglary and theft offenses.
According to a press release, the suspect was apprehended after allegedly entering a storage unit at an apartment building located on the 2100 block of Wyoming Avenue, NW. The suspect was charged with unlawful entry.
Police also connected the suspect to a burglary two offense on the 2200 block of California Street, NW. The release states that the suspect allegedly entered an unoccupied residence and took property on May 6.
On April 3, the suspect allegedly took property from a building on the 1600 block of Q Street, NW. The suspect was charged with second-degree theft.
Weeks before, the suspect committed two credit card fraud crimes, a burglary and a theft.
On March 16, the suspect allegedly entered an unoccupied residence on the 2700 block of Connecticut Avenue, NW and took a credit card and property. The suspect used the card at a business.
The day before on March 15, the suspect broke into a vehicle on the 2000 block of Q Street, NW and took a credit card. The suspect used the credit card at a business later.
